About the Queen
 |
Hello. My name is Kathryn. I am the "Queen of
Credits" and founder of the online virtual museum "The Queen of Credits
Miniature Collection". I live in Washington state, in the
USA, and have been a miniature enthusiast and collector for over 25
years.
I began painting military and espionage lead figures in the early
1980s. I did not even know there was a fantasy genre out
there or that it might be possible to purchase and collect the works of
other painters. My first efforts were pretty crude and I used
oil based Testors as my medium.
In 1985, I discovered fantasy miniatures. By chance I passed
by a miniature and rpg store that was going out of business.
The owner was busy throwing out garbage when I walked in. I
saw he had tossed five painted miniatures on the top of the garbage
heap. I had never seen anything like them before!
They appear in the scan below. I asked him if he would sell
them to me instead of just throwing them away. He
did. The price was $1 each. The most significant part of the
transaction was that I now knew that there were knights, wizards,
dragons, elves, and princesses out there somewhere. All I had
to do was to find them. And, did I ever find them. of |

first five painted miniatures I purchased. Price: $1 each
Today, my
collection is composed of miniatures from all genres. Most
are in the 25mm to 35mm size, but a small portion of my collection
includes 15mm and 54mm and larger scales as well. While I
paint myself, and eventually discovered the joy and ease of water-based
acryllics, many of my miniatures were purchased and collected from
talented miniature artists around the world.
You are probably wondering about the name... Well, I have a
son who is now a teenager. However, as a small toddler he
once noticed the credits that would scroll by on the screen at the end
of television shows or on the videos we played. Since this
was before he could read, he asked me once what those funny images
were. I told him that the movie was like a big art project
and those were the "credits" that told who did all the work putting the
show together. For some reason, he got that word mixed up
with my miniatures and he started referring to all my miniatures as
"credits". Perhaps it was because he saw how much work goes
into painting just one of those little metal figures. Anyway,
the name stuck in our family, and with miniature friends, and so
eventually I not-so-modestly declared myself "The Queen of Credits" due
to my ridiculously large miniature collection.
Ironically, the name has become a double entendre in the miniature
community. Miniature enthusiasts who follow the hobby and
know about my collecting and virtual museum, but who do not know the
history of the term "credits", don't realize it was really just a word
coined by my then-four year old son easier to say than
"miniatures." Thus, I am very honored and humbled to be known
as a patron of this art form who gives "credit" to the many artists who
work so hard to create such beauty and awe on such a miniature canvas
of a teeny metal sculpt about the size of one's thumb or less.
I want to thank all the painters and sculptors who gave permission to
use their photographs and other digital images. If you like
the workmanship of the artists shown on this website, I encourage you
to visit them at their home pages and patronize their
businesses. On their respective pages, you will find links to
their websites, and their eBay IDs and CMON names where
available. Also, thank you again to the manufacturers and
distributors of miniature sculpts, and many other people, who've given
me permission to use their photographs and images.
I enjoy hearing from other miniature enthusiasts from around the
globe. If you would like to drop me a line I can be reached
at kvfields@aol.com. Please be patient if I am slow to
respond. Sometimes I am busy with work for several days in a
row, but I will try to respond as soon as possible. If you
like the pieces appearing here, you can also check out the museum
store, The Royal Curator, (now open on eBay!), for painted miniatures,
unpainted sculpts, and other goodies that are for sale to add to your
own collection.
Enjoy your visit !
Best
regards,

Queen of Credits
