Frequently
Asked Questions
In
addition to regarding the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy on
the Legalities page, and the
information on the About the Queen
here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs):
Q: Are any of these miniatures for sale? I saw one that I would like to buy.
A. None
of the miniatures displayed on this website are for sale. Just
like with a physical museum, you cannot beckon the curator to your side
and ask him to kindly take down one of the paintings, asking him
to please sell the piece to you. You like it so much a
photo won't do. You wish to take the original home with you.
Rather, the pieces displayed in the museum proper are here for
everyone who visits to enjoy. However, like most museums, we
also have a museum store. The Royal Curator offers a selection of unpainted and painted miniatures, as well as hobby-related books and materials. Further, if any works by a particular artist are available for purchase, select pieces offered for sale can be found by clicking the link reading "Q of C presents on the auction block" on
the first page the artist's gallery. (If no link
appears, nothing is available at this time.) A complete
current listing of museum offerings can be seen here: Q of C Presents.
Q. How do you select which miniatures to
display and which artists to feature?
A. There are far too many beautiful miniatures
in my collection to display them all. So those
displayed
are
those I enjoy looking at myself, find intriguing or
unique in
someway, demonstrate an artist in development, are signature
pieces, or perhaps just
amusing.
Miniatures from artists from all
ages and all talents levels, great and humble, are displayed. I
believe everyone deserves
encouragement. Frequently, an unknown artist comes along
with amateur talent at the time he or she first appears on the
scene,
but there is something special in a certain aspect of their work that
catches my eye. I have been fortunate to collect miniatures
created by artists who have improved their talents with years
of
practice and gone on to win Golden Demons, Slayer Swords, Golden
Toadstools, Visions in Color, GenCon trophies, and Chick Challenge
triumphs later in
their careers. Some have excelled to the point where they
now paint professionally for major
miniarture manufacturers or have started their own commercial line of
miniature sculpts. And some are simply unknown geniuses who do not
paint for hire or competition--just for the joy in creating their art.
You don't have to be a "super
star" to
appear on this website. If the miniature simply makes me
smile, you have my attention.
Q.
Why did you digitally erase the logo, tatoo, or brandname from the
photo I gave you permission to use to display my miniature?
A. Sincerest apologies, but it is because this is a museum, not a
marketplace.
Commercial designations on the photo of a miniature or
diorama
(the piece of art on display) are a distraction to the viewer's eye and
denegrate the integrity of the museum and the art it displays.
If you are a featured
painter or sculptor, your actual name, business name, CMON name, and
eBay handle are listed so that if people like what they see, they will
have many ways to contact you to perhaps obtain works of yours
on
their own. If you
give me
permission to use your photo, it is
understood by us that I credit your name as the owner of the photograph
and state that it
is used with your permission. However, I reserve the right to
crop the photo for space reasons, make digital repairs to photos
that do not change the integrity, colors, or acutal and honest
representation of the piece,
and I do digitally erase tatoos, brandnames, and logos with a vengence.
They
remind of of having a Mona Lisa hanging on the wall, ....with a price
tag on it or a sticker that shouts "Available at all fine Costco stores
now!" If you prefer, I can take my own photos when I find
time
to do so, but clearly as with painting my own
miniatures,
photography is not one of my talents and
my photographs rarely replicate the quality presentation the original
artist aleady went to the effort to create and which is typically what caused me
to
admire and acquire the piece of art to begin with. ....This is
long-winded way of saying, this is one of Kathryn's "quirks."
Q. Do you sell banner ad space or pop-up ads?
A. There are no plans to ever have pop-up
ads. (I regard them as the equivalent of the "herpes of
the
internet.") Static banner ad space linking to your website is
not available on this site, but is available on the pages of the museum store The Royal Currator.
If you are interested in purchasing banner ad space there, please write for details and pricing.
Q. Will you post a link to my website?
A. Helpful, interesting, and educating links are a
valuable resource to the mini community. So, link
requests are always welcome and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
For further information regarding link requests, please refer to
the applicable provisions on the Legalities page.
Q.
Who else is a member of your museum? Why
don't
you have a membership list as do other forums?
A. The membership for the periodic museum
newsletter currently exceeds 2000 correspondents and miniature
enthusiasts. Identities of our
members
and correspondents are
private and our policy is to not release such information. Privacy is
protected to the extent
allowed by law and to the extent permitted by the artists and
members.
The museum does not offer a forum system. As there seems to
be a
forum on the Web for every conceivable genre of miniature and
manufacturer, a
forum would seem superfluous. Our privacy policy extends to
both
our artists and our correspondents. We do not release contact
information regarding members
or artists, except as is already shown or indicated already on the
website. Further information on this topic is discussed on
the Legalities page.
Q.
I write to you, but sometimes I do not hear back for a long, long time.
Are you just rude, or what?
A. Good grief ! Give me a break ! There are over
2000 of you folks ! I have a real job and so it takes time !
Q.
Does the Queen of Credits museum have a "physical home" ?
A. Regrettably, no. This website is
it equivalent of a virtual online art museum. Instead of the
museum
being in a building located in my city that you would have to travel
to, the museum is brought to YOU and there is not even an entrance fee
to visit. It is open 24 hours a day, and as long as you have a computer
and access to the internet, you can live anywhere in the world and
still visit this museum.
Q.
Do you sell the names and addresses on your email mailing list?
A. Never.
Q. WHAT
are "credits"? And why do you call
yourself the "Queen of Credits" ?
A. For the full
story on the background of the name you can read it under About
the Queen. (... it is not as arrogant as one might assume...)
Q.
Does anyone ever suggest or accuse you of having an "addiction" to
miniatures?
A. Yes, probably on the average of once
per week.
My family has abandoned all hope regarding my fascination, I believe, but I try to
explain
that my addiction does not cause lung cancer, result in DUIs, or death
due to lead "overdosing.." ....so far, no takers on that
line of
reasoning.
